A garden of technology and ancient trees is the topography of Silicon Valley. Those who profit from the former often nest in the latter. The owner of the OAKS wanted a modern farm close to her futuristic factory to raise llamas and weave their wool. The protected oaks and the profile of the surrounding hills plus local building codes all combined to produce beneficial restraints. “Necessity is the mother of invention!” The exterior form is sculpted from, and floats upon its site: twisting and turning as if it grew in consort with its Oak arbors. The roof plane folds down to further express the grounding of the site where bold integrated color accentuates the domicile’s dynamic geometry. The overall effect produces two interlocking figures with private space at its extremities and public ones which converge at its midpoint.
